Class Description:

This seminar highlights key provisions of the 2018 International Mechanical Code® (IMC®) and provides practice in applying key requirements. It reinforces learning by supplying immediate feedback or clarification. It walks participants through the content outline of the code book and describes key sections. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize the purpose and content of each chapter contained in the 2018 IMC.
  • Describe the intent and application of major sections of the 2018 IMC.
  • Explain the application of the 2018 IMC through inspection, plan review and enforcement.
  • Apply provisions of the 2018 IMC through plan review and inspection processes.

Class Materials/Books to Reference: 

  • There is a $20 workbook fee required for this class. Registered attendees will receive a custom link/code for downloading the required electronic Work/Code book (each individual will be responsible for accessing directly). There will also be PowerPoint slides (from the presentation) provided.

About our Presenter:

Sam is well-respected and extremely knowledgeable expert who has presented previously to OBOA to excellent reviews. He is known in the mechanical, building, and fuel gas community as one of the top technical experts in the United States; with insight into the disciplines that only a select handful of people in the world possess. He served two five-year terms as the President of the Colorado Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and taught entry to advanced level mechanical courses. His career includes over 49 years in the HVAC industry, with 11 years as a Mechanical Plans Examiner and the Chief Mechanical Inspector for the City of Boulder, Colorado. He is a past member of the IMC Interpretation Committee and a present member of the IMC Code Change Committee.

ICC Preferred Provider Program Continuing Education Credit (ICC PPP CEUs):

OBOA is an approved International Code Council (ICC) Preferred Provider. The Preferred Provider Program recognizes and promotes ICC-approved educational offerings as they relate to codes, standards and guidelines, as well as building construction materials, products and methods. ICC certificate holders may obtain ICC CEUs from Preferred Providers that can be applied toward the renewal requirements of ICC’s certification program. It is the intent of OBOA that all classes offered at institutes will be approved for the Preferred Provider Program.

ICC PPP Approved Course #: 1010-15035 | 0.6 CEUs (must take both sessions/full six hours for credit)

An ICC CEU is a continuing education unit; each 10 clock hours of continuing education equals 1 CEU. Our typical one-day seminar has 6 hours of instruction, or 0.6 CEUs. Credit is awarded for a variety of activities wherein the objective is achieving relevant professional knowledge beyond that required for initial certification. Participation in all OBOA courses are approved for International Code Council (ICC) certification renewal continuing education credits as noted for each class. Please check with your appropriate jurisdiction and/or institution regarding your specific continuing education credit needs.
