May is Building Safety Month

– State of Oregon Proclamation –


 

WHEREAS: The citizens of Oregon spend their time at home, at school, work, worship and play in buildings; and

WHEREAS: Our state places a high value on ensuring safe buildings for the protection of its citizens from fire, windstorms, earthquakes, landslides, floods, and other natural hazards; and 

WHEREAS: Our state encourages sustainable construction practices, innovative building design, alternative energy and energy efficiency, water conservation and reasonable safeguards for the protection of life and property; and

WHEREAS: Our confidence is achieved through the devotion of professional trades persons, contractors, architects, engineers, and building inspectors and fire prevention officers - who work year-round to ensure the construction of safe, durable, and sustainable buildings; and

WHEREAS: In observance of Building Safety Month, Oregon citizens are reminded about the benefits of safe and sustainable spaces whether at home, at work, or places where we gather in our communities.

NOW, THEREFORE: I, Tina Kotek, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim May 2024 to be BUILDING SAFETY MONTH in Oregon and encourage all Oregonians to join in this observance.
