The City of Bend Community Development Department is actively recruiting for one (1) full-time Limited Duration Building Inspector - Plans Examiner III position. This opportunity is a represented by City of Bend Employees Association (COBEA), is an FLSA exempt position, and has an expected duration of up to three (3) years. This recruitment will also be used to determine an eligibility list for upcoming vacancies at various levels for up to 6 months. The eligibility list may be canceled at anytime, at the discretion of the City. This class performs inspections or plan reviews of new and existing structures to determine compliance with plumbing, mechanical, electrical, structural, energy and/or accessibility requirements for State of Oregon building codes and other specified codes applicable to the City of Bend. Reporting directly to the Community Development Director, the City Building Official is responsible the day-to-day operations of the Building Division and its 22 employees and provides highly technical and professional assistance in building matters related to the protection of the health and safety of citizens by ensuring building, construction and remodeling activities meet appropriate codes, standards and City ordinances. The City Building Official is a member of the Department's Management Team and is expected to actively participate in the ongoing Development Review Process, which coordinates the city's planning, building and site development functions into a single process.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection or plan examination, including 3 years in a supervisory or management role. Additional requirements include a valid driver's license, Oregon Building Official Certification, Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC), Oregon A level Plans Examiner Certification, Oregon Building Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner Certification and Oregon Building A level Structural Inspector Certification. Out-of-state applicants will be required to obtain certifications upon hire, in a time-frame not to exceed six (6) months. Salary range from $94,042 to $126,033 with outstanding benefits.

Building Inspector/Plans Examiner II or III - City of Corvallis

This position will be hired at either the BIPE II or III level and will primarily be assigned to commercial plan review. Position requires multi-certifications and disciplines necessary to assist/handle project approvals from start to finish through the plan review and inspection processes. Level III: Requires four years of formal education, training, and/or experience in construction management, architecture, structural engineering, building design, construction inspection, and/or plan review providing the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Inspects all types and stages of electrical installations and plans for compliance to the Oregon State National Electrical Code as adopted by Marion County; performs other related duties as required.

JOB DUTIES Inspects electrical installations and systems during construction to ensure compliance with applicable requirements. Reviews construction plans for completeness and compliance with County codes and policies as required to assist applicants. Assists and advises the general public in matters relating to electrical equipment, products and code requirements. Reviews commercial electrical plans for code compliance as required. Maintains records and compiles reports of inspection activities. Provides advice and guidance to individuals with limited electrical skills to assist such persons in complying with applicable codes. Appears in court when the occasion warrants it to testify regarding electrical installations. Extensive driving possibly up to 200 miles per day. Investigates complaints and inspects existing electrical systems and appliances to determine if hazardous or illegal conditions are present. Prepares written reports; issues notices to correct violations; issues "stop work" notices. Provides electrical code training to other department personnel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Ten (10) years of experience in the electrical trade.

NECESSARY SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS Possession of Oregon State Electrical Inspector certification. Possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, an Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC).
