About our Keynote Presenter: Michael has a unique blend of experience in government relations and traditional law practice, which enables him to advise clients politically through a legal lens. His practice focuses on representing clients before all levels of elected and appointed government entities in Oregon. He has extensive experience representing large municipalities, national corporations, institutions of higher education, and non-profits on a variety of policy issues. This broad scope has allowed Michael to create relationships with a diverse range of elected officials and stakeholders over the years. In his practice, he prides himself on the relationships he's built with elected officials and stakeholders and relishes taking the time to gain a deep understanding of the issues on which he is advocating. He believes it’s just as important to understand your opposition’s position as it is to understand your client’s. Because of that, Michael's practice is research focused, detail oriented, and relationship based.

Michael also has extensive experience working in government relations in Oregon, in addition to experience working as an associate attorney for a Portland-based law firm specializing in business and real estate matters. He's previously served as the Director of Legislative Policy for one of Oregon’s largest trade associations. In that role, he was responsible for helping set the association’s legislative priorities, communicating those priorities to members throughout the state, and representing the large member organization before the Oregon Legislative Assembly and various state agencies. Working in-house, Michael has experienced what it’s like managing a contract lobbyist and what clients expect and value. Michael was born and raised in Oregon and comes from a long line of dairy farmers and truck drivers. He currently lives in Salem with his wife, daughter, son, and loves being a part of a changing city. Outside of work, he and his wife spend his time chasing kids around and showing them as much of Oregon as possible. You’ll also see them tirelessly rooting for Oregon State athletics through the good and the bad.

*OBOA Committee Chairs and State Board Representatives: Please be sure to prepare your comments or updates for your corresponding committee or board -- written and verbal announcements are appreciated and encouraged. Committee chairs should submit their written committee report (in our template or otherwise) one week prior to the QBM; if your committee has not met, simply use this time to recruit for members and explain your goals for 2022 (and/or ask for input from the OBOA membership as we know some committee work has been on hiatus during covid).

Webinar Instructions/Details

Upon registration on the OBOA website, attendees will receive a confirmation email that contains important details to access the meeting, which will be held via Zoom. Only registered attendees will be admitted to attend the meeting; Zoom access details may not be shared. If the person registered is no longer able to attend, a substitute may be made from the same jurisdiction/company (please email OBOA staff to communicate the change so records can be updated for CEU purposes).

IMPORTANT: Upon entry to the webinar, be sure your "Name" is set with your full first and last name (ex: John Smith) -- NO phone numbers or nicknames -- for security purposes. Numbers and/or unrecognized names will not be allowed to enter. We appreciate your compliance with this standard protocol.

LOGGING IN/DURING MEETING: To ensure accurate CE reporting to ICC (so that you get credit!), each attendee must log in to the webinar separately and from their own individual device (computer or laptop, no phones or tablets). We realize some of you may want to join together (ie in a conference room with other registered attendees), but that would not be reflected on the attendance report so we ask you to please access individually to avoid any issues. Also to ensure accurate CEU tracking and attendance, logging in and out of the meeting is strongly discouraged and may affect credit verification.

ICC Preferred Provider Program (PPP) — Earn Your Continuing Education Credit (CEUs) with OBOA

An application for this course has been submitted through the International Code Council Preferred Provider Program for 0.40 CEUs (4 hours) of continuing education units (CEUs).

OBOA maintains record of all meeting participants and it is the responsibility of each individual to submit for credit with ICC. Certificates of Participation for individual record keeping will be provided on a request basis.

Thank you for your continued support of OBOA! We look forward to seeing you on February 25.
